Cut
Often mistaken for shape, cut actually refers to how well a diamond has been crafted to reflect light and sparkle. It determines the stones brightness (white light return), fire (flashes of color), and scintillation (sparkling light movement).
Currently, cut grading applies only to round brilliant diamonds, as their light performance is easier to measure precisely. Other shapes such as princess, cushion, and emerald do not receive an official cut grade on their certificates. However, at CaratCrush, we provide an estimated cut grade based on comparable parameters.
Cut grades range from Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, to Poor. This assessment considers factors invisible to the untrained eye, including how proportions like table size and depth influence light return. A diamond with an Excellent cut reflects light perfectly neither too deep nor too shallow.

Expert Tip:
The difference between an Excellent and a Very Good cut is subtle, as both reflect light in the same direction. We recommend choosing Excellent or Very Good whenever possible. If you need to stay within budget, a Good cut can still offer impressive brilliance and great value. Just avoid diamonds that are too deep, as they may appear smaller than their actual carat weight.
